About The Role

Salary: £23,304 pro rata

Hours: 14 hours over 2 days per week

Contract: 6-week fixed term contract

Working for a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP)

Michael Marra MSP is looking for a Parliamentary Campaigns Intern to join his team on a 6-week placement. As a Parliamentary Campaigns Intern, you will assist with the day-to-day operations of a busy MSP’s office. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in parliamentary processes, administrative tasks and contributing to the work of Michael Marra MSP.

As an internship, this role would be ideally suited to someone looking to develop their skills further. A full range of training and support will be provided. The office of Michael Marra MSP values diversity and we particularly encourage applicants from historically under-represented groups.

This role will be based primarily in the members’ region of the North East, with most time spent in Dundee. There will be an occasional need to attend Parliament in Edinburgh.

MSPs are employers in their own right. Under their employment, you will become part of a team supporting them in carrying out their duties. You'll work in a dynamic and fast paced environment to provide an outstanding service for constituents.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting MSP in the development and delivery of campaigns on behalf of constituents.
    • Development, completion, tracking and monitoring the handling of tasks and ensuring they are dealt with timely and professionally.
    • Drafting written correspondence such as letters, requests for information and parliamentary questions and motions.
  • Maintaining office records and compliance with data protection.
    • Maintaining an appropriate filing system and managing records.
    • Ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and GDPR requirements.
    • Ensuring administrative and secretarial support is provided.

About You

Requirements

  • A passion for campaigning focused on delivering for the people of North East Scotland and a keen interest in politics.  
  • Excellent written, verbal and IT skills with accurate attention to detail.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach, being able to use good judgement and work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Well organised with the ability to prioritise competing workloads
