About The Role

John Mason MSP is looking for a Constituency Assistant to join his team. 
Salary: £24,000 to £26,000 depending on experience.
Hours: Full time - 35 hours per week 
Location: Constituency office in Glasgow’s Parkhead area
Please note: this is a fixed term role until the end of the current Scottish parliamentary term in 2026.

Working for a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP)

MSPs are employers in their own right. Under their employment, you will become part of a team supporting them in carrying out their duties. You'll work in a dynamic and fast paced environment to provide an outstanding service for constituents.

The successful candidate will have an important role in helping run a busy constituency office in Glasgow’s Parkhead area. The principal role of the Assistant will be to engage with constituents, undertake constituency casework on their behalf and provide support to the MSP and his small team of staff.

The successful applicant will be able to show excellent communication and organisational skills and an ability to work on their own initiative.

Job Description


  • Dealing with constituents’ general enquiries (including political issues).
  • Dealing with constituency casework and responding to issues raised through correspondence, telephone calls, emails and surgeries.
  • Drafting of correspondence as required and parliamentary questions/motions.
  • Administrative work including maintenance of electronic and manual filing systems.
  • Additional duties as required to fulfil the role.

About You


  • Demonstrable interpersonal skills with the ability to identify and take forward issues on behalf of constituents.
  • The ability to work on own initiative within a small local constituency office.
  • High standard of administrative skills with a demonstrable working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proven communication skills, both written and verbal with a polite, pleasant and confident telephone manner and ability to deal with constituents and outside bodies in a confidential manner.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Experience of operating websites and social media including facebook and twitter/x.
