About The Role

Alexander Burnett MSP (Aberdeenshire West) is looking for a Parliamentary Assistant to join his team

Location: Huntly Local Office (Hybrid)
Hours: Part-time (around 18.5 hours a week but this is flexible)
Salary: £28,000 – £31,000 pro rata 

Working for a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP)
MSPs are employers in their own right. Under their employment, you will become part of a team supporting them in carrying out their duties. You'll work in a dynamic and fast paced environment to provide an outstanding service for constituents.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting the Member and the team in running local campaigns on constituency issues.
  • Assisting with research relevant to the Member’s committee and constituency.
  • Arranging briefing papers and speeches.
  • Assist in writing external communications.
  • Communicating with Government departments, local councils and other organisations and parliamentary officials.
  • Performing casework-related research and corresponding with constituents and local campaign groups.
  • Drafting briefings to update constituents and the Member on key issues.

About You

Requirements:
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with accurate attention to detail.
  • Have a flexible and adaptable approach, being able to use good judgement on own initiative.
  • Be well organised with the ability to prioritise competing workloads to meet the demands of a busy office.
  • Ability to work independently and be a team player; enthusiastic and reliable.
  • IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
