About The Role

Mercedes Villalba MSP is looking for a permanent Communications Officer to join her team. 

Location: Dundee Office - when restrictions allow (currently working from home)

Hours: 28 hours per week over 4 days 

Salary: £24,091 to £26,815, with a progressive terms and conditions package 

Working for and supporting Mercedes Villalba, MSP for North East Scotland Region 

Do you have proven experience in media, communications, journalism or related fields and the ability to use content management systems, social media platforms, web analytics tools and digital marketing methods?  

We are looking for a highly motivated and effective Communications Officer with integrity, commitment and great attention to detail. You will be a confident written and verbal communicator, self-motivated, organised, creative, and able to work on your own and to tight deadlines. 

In this role you will be responsible for updating Mercedes Villalba MSP social media accounts, assisting with campaign strategies, setting up and maintaining a subscribers list for a regular newsletter, accompanying Mercedes on surgeries and visits in the region to produce social media updates to keep constituents informed, producing and editing video content for Mercedes’ social media posts. You will also occasionally be required to travel to parliament to create content about Mercedes activities there. The work will be varied and interesting and will support Mercedes to provide an excellent service for all constituents in the North-East Scotland region.

Job Role
  • Developing and implementing digital communication strategies, including social media advertising and engagement across Mercedes multiple social media channels. 
  • Supporting the execution of all campaign strategies of Mercedes Villalba MSP campaigns
  • Creating post-campaign analysis and reports.
  • Managing own workload and liaising with team regarding proposed campaign and social media projects   
  • Designing all MSP engagement materials to support the promotion of Mercedes Villalba MSP campaigns.  
  • Working with office manager to make sure all MSP engagement materials such as annual report or business cards are ordered on time for any campaigns, visits or surgeries.  
  • Producing a monthly newsletter to update constituents  
  • Setting up Mercedes Villalba MSP website and maintaining a subscribers list for newsletter.   
  • Corresponding with constituents and local campaign groups. 
  • Producing high quality press briefings, speeches, presentations and written materials. 
  • Organising and arranging interviews and press conferences as specified. 

About You

You will:
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Experience in a digital marketing, advertising or communication role 
  • Have strong experience using audio-visual editing related software such as Canva, Indesign or Adobe Pro 
  • Have accurate attention to detail 
  • Knowledge of the latest digital marketing trends, social media trends and technologies 
  • Be well organised with the ability to prioritise competing workloads 
  • Be flexible and adaptable, able to use good judgement and work on own initiative 
  • Be creative 
  • Ability to work well within a team
