The Information Management and Governance (IMG) team is responsible for handling all aspects of information governance across the SPCB. The team ensures the SPCB complies with the requirements under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. To see where the office fits within our organisation, view our organisation chart. 

As the Information Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for working alongside and deputising for the Head of Information Governance who is also the Data Protection Officer (DPO) for the SPCB. You’ll be involved in supporting and assisting the DPO in the provision of advice and guidance on data protection to organisations who we provide services to, who are all supported by the SPCB; Scottish Public Services Ombudsman, Scottish Information Commissioner, Ethical Standards Commissioner, Standards Commission for Scotland, Children and Young People’s Commissioner for Scotland, Scottish Human Rights Commission and the Scottish Biometrics Commissioner.

You’ll also be involved with supporting and advising MSPs and their staff to comply with their requirements under data protection. You’ll respond to data security incidents and breaches while maintaining records, policies and procedures in line with UK GDPR and Data Compliance. You’ll also advise on data protection impact assessments and monitor the provision of training.

Working with the Head of Information Governance you’ll handle all freedom of information requests received by the SPCB, including co-ordinating the response to FOI Reviews and responding to applications to the Scottish Information Commissioner. You’ll maintain and update FOI disclosure logs and the model publication scheme as well as respond to enquiries relating to matters such as copyright and open data. You’ll also be responsible for providing statistical and quarterly reports to management and the Scottish Information Commissioner, working to statutory deadlines.

About You

You’ll have experience of leading and handling freedom of information requests and advising on data protection, ideally within a regulatory environment. You’ll already be co-ordinating the response to FOI Reviews and responding to applications to the Scottish Information Commissioner. You’ll have good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate complex issues with brevity, accuracy and impartiality, both orally and in writing, to tight deadlines.

You’ll champion collaborative working with colleagues across the parliamentary service, promoting positive and open communication, as well as our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

You’ll also demonstrate a high level of personal credibility with excellent influencing skills, and the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships.

Please note that only your values-based statement will be submitted to Hiring Managers, without your CV or any personal details, and they will then select candidates for further assessment or interview. 

Stage 2  

After shortlisting, we’ll invite you to take part in a remote timed written assessment and we’ll offer you a selection of time slots to choose from. At the final stage, you’ll be invited to attend a virtual panel interview and will also be asked to deliver a presentation.  Interviews will be held between 27 and 30 June 2022 although this is subject to change.
