Paul O'Kane MSP is looking for a full-time Communications and Digital Officer to join their team.
 
Location: Paisley regional office (Abbey Mill Business Centre, 12 Seedhill Road)

Working for a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP)

MSPs are employers in their own right. Under their employment, you will become part of a team supporting them in carrying out their duties. You'll work in a dynamic and fast paced environment to provide an outstanding service for constituents.

This role will support Paul O’Kane MSP in the promotion of his parliamentary work by creating digital assets, maintaining social media and assisting in the development of campaigns on issues of importance to people in West Scotland. Vital to this role is producing high quality written materials and maintaining good administration and information systems.

The role requires someone who can show initiative and be a self-starter, is passionate about helping the diverse local community and has an awareness and good knowledge of both new media and traditional communications.

You will be expected to maintain the highest standards of accuracy in your own work and be able to work in a flexible and confidential manner at all times and as part of a team.

Desirable applicants will have previous experience of a Parliamentary office/political or third sector environment. Previous experience of working social media platforms, maintaining a website and producing video content and design materials using platforms such as Canva is also highly desirable.

The list of responsibilities and activities below is not exhaustive, and you may be expected to carry out other duties in support of the MSP as required.

Responsibilities

  • Producing materials that effectively convey my aims to the general public and media
    • Keeping up to date with current media developments
    • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, delivering community engagement events
    • Corresponding with constituents, local campaign groups, and any other relevant external bodies where necessary
    • Producing high quality press briefings, speeches, presentations and written (both traditional and electronic) materials, working with me to promote my parliamentary work nationally and locally
    • Preparing and delivering regular briefings and updates
    • Analysing, evaluating and interpreting data and statistics
    • Supporting with the identification of potential media opportunities
    • Assisting with any media interaction such as preparation for interviews or output to press, broadcast or online media as specified
  • Following all media outlets to capture relevant developments as they happen
    • Maintaining information systems to support communications
    • Maintaining and growing social media presence
    • Drafting and posting social media content to update constituents on my parliamentary activities, including producing online graphics and video content, publicising surgeries, events, Parliamentary work and news alerts
    • Reviewing social media trends and briefing me in issues of relevance to my parliamentary role
    • Contributing creative new engagement methods to the team for my social media accounts

About You

Requirements

You will:
 
  • Be capable in monitoring media developments and sourcing information from a range of channels
  • Be creative in designing and communicating over a range of formats on different media platforms
  • Have flexibility using relevant IT skills and writing styles, covering both traditional and newer forms of media
  • Have excellent communications skills, with accurate attention to detail and the ability to work effectively with colleagues
  • Be a quick learner with the ability to multitask and work within tight timescales
