About The Role

The Scottish Liberal Democrats Parliamentary Group of MSPs is looking to employ a full-time Social Media Officer.

Location: Holyrood

Hours: Full-time; 37 hours

Salary: £24,000 - £27,000

This important new role of the Social Media Officer is to provide Liberal Democrat MSPs and their staff with social media support. As part of the central parliamentary team you will be working with MSPs and senior staff to shape social media around political initiatives, campaigns, events and breaking news stories. You will be working at the forefront of Scottish politics using your skills to identify, engage and inform audiences. You will be driving campaigns and explaining policy positions in an accessible way.

Candidates will have experience of digital marketing with an understanding of targeting, analytics and social media engagement. Candidates will also understand Webteam design, segmentation, targeted audiences and message delivery.

This role is to support the MSPs in their role as parliamentarians through the Scottish Parliament Members’ Expenses Scheme.  Candidates will have an understanding of Scottish politics and the ability to support the MSPs in carrying out their parliamentary role.


         Writing, creating, and designing content

         Devising, implementing, and maintaining strategies for communicating the campaigns and messages from Liberal Democrat MSPs through social media channels to deliver increased engagement.

         Developing an innovation and data-led culture using testing and analytics to achieve maximum impact and to ensure the MSPs are at the forefront of digital campaigning.

         Designing, implementing and monitoring a targeted digital advertising programme.    

         Ensuring that social media content can be easily turned into template materials.

About You


         Good written communication skills.

         Experience of video production and editing.

         Experience of design software, such as Affinity or Adobe Suite (Indesign / Illustrator /PhotoShop).

         An understanding of digital marketing and targeting, analytics and social media engagement.


         An understanding of website design.

         An understanding of segmentation, target audiences and message delivery.

         Experience in digital marketing, in particular, targeted paid advertising using Facebook, Google and other online platforms.

         Sound judgement and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.

         The ability to prioritise workloads and deal with a competing range of demands
